Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Venkatesh Iyer has expressed his disappointment over being released by the franchise ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Iyer’s Statement
“I would have loved to stay with KKR,” Iyer said in an interview. “The franchise has been like a family to me, and I have many fond memories of my time there.”
KKR’s Retention List
KKR opted to retain the following players for the 2025 season:

- Sunil Narine
- Andre Russell
- Varun Chakravarthy
- Harshit Rana
- Ramandeep Singh
Iyer’s Performance
Iyer had a mixed run with KKR, scoring 403 runs in 24 matches at an average of 20.15 and strike rate of 128.51.
Future Plans
The 29-year-old Iyer will now head into the IPL auction, hoping to attract interest from other franchises.
